Description

Tennessee Onions are a delightful condiment that marries sweet and savory flavors, transforming any dish into a gourmet experience. This easy-to-make topping starts with fresh onions slowly caramelized with brown sugar and apple cider vinegar, resulting in a rich, tangy blend that pairs beautifully with grilled meats, sandwiches, or even as a side dish.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large yellow onions
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. Slice the onions thinly and set aside.
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Sauté for about 10 minutes until tender.
  3. Stir in the brown sugar and apple cider vinegar until well combined.
  4. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes until thickened.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in butter until melted. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
